Dolmen in Borkowo – mysterious megalith with cut marks ?!

It’s undoubtedly unique ancient building covering probably amazing mystery. When seeing this construction for the first time it looks rather like a stack of rubble which only resembles the building in general. Fighting against time alone lasts for thousands of years (maybe much longer then official knowledge provides). Aroud construction there are in close range single stones that may have ones constituted objet’s outer wall creating border of the mound covering main construction with corridor. The whole could have formed rectangular shape.

Boulders covered with moss lying on the sidelines in some distance to the road can be through inattention overlooked. They don’t look like a precisely machined blocks when we observe them from some range. However, it’s worth to take a look on them closer because they may bare traces of … cuts!

Marks that look like formed by machines can be visible on the greatest ceiling block from the inner side of construction (from corridor). This flat surface is not visible at first look, bears traces of erosion in the form of miniature holes / hollows. If we assume that building may have perhaps thousands of years or maybe even more then some components of stone slab (probably of granit) may just have become completely weathered (feldspar or mica). There are also visible slightly larger furrows but they can be remains of larger mechanical injuries, erosion or even something else.

Despite of imperfections we are dealing with quite big flat surface which even today refllect a little of light inspiring us to new look, starts the imagination and it makes you reflection about who, when and how built this dolmen. After zoom even minor crystals (probably) quartz with other components of stone lie in one surface without even the smallest deflections (even smaller that one milimeter). Within this surface can be found also even other one, a little deflected from main but this needs more measurements.

Was this one particular stone used to build other construction and after that again used in discussed dolmen or also from the begining was for that intended? General view on that monument gives us a hypothesis that also other blocks could have had flat surfaces (machined?) but without their cleaning and accurate measurements it’s impossible to get a specific answer.

Is this a work of very patient man clothed in leather and using simple tools? Was there – as it’s often said – enough amount of time, patient and strength? What about tools? What kind of tools to cut and polish might have been used? Do pepople in ancient times need such a precision of stone processing? And yet precision of the work done is very impressive.

It’s a result of specific needs, skills and above all technical possibilities. That surface don’t bear also traces of furrows typical for glacier. That block is battered, has a lot of mechanical damages and it’s possible that its original appearance was quite diffirent. It’s not excluded that other blocks also were cut, machined in a precision way but it needs insightful analysis.

Presented views and assumptions are the result of new (free) look to that quite mystery construction. Mystery construction because it was created in the unknown times, then it’s not possible to definitely say who was originally bured there, if any at all. Even its purpose is uncertain because old people long after it was built could adpoted that to new purposes, included for burial. If that was a shelter, originally covered with a thick layer of ground? Or maybe there was something other in that construction than a human remains?

Who knows the truth? Will we ever find out how the flat surface of one of the block was created?
